Writing is getting fun again! 17,232 words
I had a nice fun writing session today. The intrigue is heating up, with Molly and Kiefer being dbags (although apparently, convincing others that they are not dbags! woo hoo! writing at its finest!) and Nicky and Seth being oblivous patsies. (Not sure how to pluralize the word 'patsy.' Forgive me.)
I was becoming concerned about the music that was going to be included on the EsNoWriMo compilation (referred to on other EsNo blogs) so I did my part to up the quality. So far I had two 80's mixes (one regular, one 'romantic' (read - awful!)). In today's writing, I included some references to the Smiths and an entire mixed tape of the best Smiths songs. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, LFO!
Here are my three mixed tapes so far:

Side A
1. "Billie Jean" (Michael Jackson)
2. "Blue Monday" (New Order)

6. "We Got the Beat" (Go-Gos)

6. "F*** the Police" (NWA)
7. "Girls On Film" (Duran Duran)
8. "Rebel, Rebel" - David Bowie
Careless Atomic Healing – a mix by Seth Kayte (for Molly Ringwall)
Side A

But I'm sure you didn't tune in to my blog to just read a bunch of track listings. You want an excerpt! Well, I'll give you an excerpt! In this excerpt, you can read Nicky's reaction to Kiefer's letter (that I posted yesterday). She asks Molly's advice about what to do and also mentions the Smiths and the Cure. Not sure why but I was reminiscing about my high school music tastes which are apparently shared by Nicky!
Letter 47. July 18, 198x
The Big City
Oh, dear.
Molly, please read the enclosed letter. As you’ll see, it’s from Kiefer and he seems to have lost his mind. After he moved into my building I barely saw him and frankly thought that he was ignoring me because I had refused to be his muse and wasn’t impressed with his overwrought poetry. (Does that sound mean? Sorry, Kiefer.) Now it turns out that he was pining away for me the whole time?
Honestly, I can’t figure out what I should do. He’s practically begging for me to write to him, and it’s such a strange request… he’s like that guy we met on the bus that one time who kept asking me to give him a hug. One the one hand, I believe that there isn’t enough physical touch in the world right now and there’s no reason we should treat everyone as strangers. I believe in building community, in being kind and generous, etc etc etc. On the other hand, I was pissed off because I thought he wouldn’t ask a man for the same thing – he was being sexist and women are always being asked to give over their minds and bodies for the satisfaction of men. Kiefer really doesn’t deserve anything from me, but I still wonder if I’m being a bitch. You’re not involved in the whole thing so maybe you’ll see more clearly than I do? God, am I being a bitch by sharing this clearly very personal letter with you?
Ugh, I’m frustrated. Please help? As usual, I’m enclosing some passes for Flabulous. I’m hoping you’ll join us, as usual. ALSO, the Smiths are coming to town and I want to dress in all black, smear lipstick on my face as if I’m Robert Smith, and stand in the front row crying like I’m eighteen years old and no one has every known me like Steven Patrick Morrissey. “I know it’s over, and it never really began… but in my heart, it was so real…” Hahahahahahaha.
Much love,
Nicky
P.S. I have plans with Seth tonight… I am not sure but I think it might be a date.

Your description of Nicky's planned attire and behaviour at a Smiths concert is how I act every single day.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your comments about Kiefer's sexism. If anyone is sexist, it is probably Jack Bauer. Will he urinate on her socks as revenge?
ReplyDeleteI thought that was our plan for buck and doe attire...
ReplyDeleteYour writing is so wonderful to read. It feels like you are having a great time writing it. Worried that she seems to be taken into by Kiefer's ploys. Maybe it will turn out that she was one playing him all along.
