A very Glamorous evening
No time to post yesterday because I spent most of the day preparing for and then attending Glamorous: A tribute to the Jazz Age, at the Buddies in Bad Times Theater in Toronto. It was a fundraiser for the 519, the local LGBTQ community center.
And it was amazing. First of all, it was one of the best variety shows I've ever been to. There was a wonderful mix of dance, burlesque, boylesque, drag, a great mc, and one live singer (who was adorable and wonderful). Second, there were costumes - we had encouraged people to dress up in their jazz age finest and many people did. And I got to dress up in a very over-the-top outfit: red flapper dress, giant platinum blonde curly wig (thanks Jackie!), very large feathered headband, long pearl necklace, and of course, my white fur coat (which matched the wig!). You all know how I love to dress up so I was happy just about that! But the best part was just that I felt like I was a part of something great. It's been tough living in Toronto where I feel like I don't know anybody, and no one knows me. It's hard to describe how different last night felt from my other Toronto experiences. Even when I've performed, I've felt a little shy, nervous, and not really a part of things. And last night I didn't perform, but still felt right in the middle of it. I have to thank Swingin'OUT for that, for being such a great and welcoming group, and also all of our performers who were so sweet and kind.
I was so excited about how well the event had gone that I had trouble sleeping last night... and finding it hard to keep my eyes open today. So, I'll just go ahead and post this blog without proof-reading it, adding any links, or adding any pictures! Hopefully I'll find time to do that later.

I'm glad you had such a great time Indigo! But I have to ask why Jackie had a huge platinum blonde wig. Did she steal it from Scott's (the Esmonde one) girlfriend he brought to xmas a few years ago?
ReplyDeleteAlso, while I was trying to get to your blog, I accidentally stumbled upon a christian christmas website, sevenmaraschinocherries.blogpot.com...it was weird.
That sounds really fun Indidgo. If only there were pictures (of your costume of course)!
ReplyDeleteJackie bought the wig for a murder mystery party that was held at my house in the fall. We HAVE to do one of these soon. I think an all-Esmonde and Wannabes murder mystery party would be hilarious.
