Too much plot, too much problem, 28,522 words

 URRRGGHH

So I wrote out this whole huge thing about how everyone was debating what to do to defeat Jorn Acorn. Then Marg got mad and defected to Jorn's side.

Meaning Jorn now knew all their plans, where everyone was, etc.

Meaning, everyone had to escape and go to a completely new location.

And there was only one location I had mentioned but not used yet.

The underwater UFO bat cave.

Jocelyn Desmond arrived and took our main cast of characters to the cave. I'll give you two short excerpts. This first one tells us a bit more about the illustrious Desmond.

“I’m no good to you in there,” Jocelyn said. “I’ll be fighting for your freedoms in the halls of power. Besides, I have a few baby naming ceremonies to attend, with people who have named their children after me. It wouldn’t look good if I told them I had to work on a case.” Jocelyn looked exhausted. Between baby name ceremonies, receiving honorary doctorates from universities around the world, and being humiliated by her “feisty” rescue dog in obedience classes, there was barely time for her to fit in her legal work.

In the second excerpt, our resistance fighters (sans Jocelyn Desmond) are in a large UFO hidden in an underwater UFO bat cave.  This excerpt reveals how high the stakes suddenly are. I'll remind you that the day before, the stakes were that Jorn Acorn wanted to prevent Cody Simpson from using the nickname "Jorts."

“You poor bastards, you don’t have a clue, do you?” said Jackie.

Cody spoke up, “we do not.”

Flo Rida agreed.

“If these UFOs and bats are discovered… the world as we know it will end.”

The silence lasted only a few seconds before Bailey asked, “could you be a little more specific?”

Jackie explained the whole thing, and frankly it made little sense to anyone but Cody “Jorts” Simpson, so I don’t expect it will make much sense to you. The gist of it is that the mass of the large UFO was significant enough that if the large UFO were moved up to the surface of Lake Ontario, the Earth would be thrown off course, most likely with the end result that the Earth would fall into the sun. Cody did a few back-of-the-envelope calculations and when he looked up, his face was grim, so the others believed it too.

Jackie wasn’t finished. He said that even if the UFOs stayed undiscovered, if the bats were taken, the other flying animals of the world (insects, birds, what have you) would rise up in defense, and it would be all out war on the humans.

“So what do we do?” Fenn asked.

“I don’t know yet,” Jackie responded. “We have to talk to the bats.”

I wrote extra today so I can take the day off tomorrow if I want. I am so tired!

Comments

  1. I am chilled. This underwater UFO bat cave is even more important than I could have imagined. I laughed when Cody did some quick, back of the napkin astrophysical calculations and "looked grim". Perfection!

  2. Hahahaha- I love the description of Jocelyn Desmond. A true hero of the people!
I love that Jorts Simpson is more than a pretty face, one hit, a failed attempt to make an Olympic team, and a 'grate' set of abs, but is in fact capable of doing world ending math on the back of an envelope no less, AND that he has the gravitas to convince others with his grim expression! How have we not made Jorts Simpson a more significant character before this summer?

  3. You weren’t kidding about the steaks very suddenly becoming much higher. I was worried before about Cody Simpson, losing his nickname, but the potential end of the world is just a little bit worse. i’ve had to stop using the word Jorts in my comments because voice to text doesn’t transcribe it properly. Imagine my surprise when not only did it transcribe properly just now, but it also capitalized it without me having to command it to do so I also was blown away by Cody Simpson‘s math skills and his quick back of the envelope calculations. but a bit surprised that this day and age he actually had an envelope handy for this purpose.

  4. So much plot and no problems, as far as I'm concerned!! Jocelyn Desmond is both the hero we need and the hero we deserve. EsNoWriMo has really just been a shrine to Jackie, and it is so well deserved. And everyone else is right-- how did it take this long for Cody Simpson to rightfully step into the EsNoWriMo spotlight? I'm so glad that you are finally righting this wrong.
